The 3-way exchange / multiple exchange process

Can I do a multiple exchange?

Why do a 3-way exchange / multiple exchange?

A 3-way or multiple exchange can give you more opportunities to find a move to the area and property that you want. If you've found a property you want to move to, but the tenant doesn't want yours, with a 3-way it may still be possible for you to move there.

For example:

Ann & Alan live in Andover and want to move to Bath. They have found a property they want to move to in Bath, but the tenants, Brenda & Bob want to move to Cardiff.

So they need to find somebody in Cardiff who wants to move to Andover in order to complete the circle.

How do 3-way exchange / multiple exchanges work?

  • A - Ann & Alan live in Andover and want to move to Bath
  • B - Brenda & Bob live in Bath, but want to move to Cardiff
  • C - Carol & Chris live in Cardiff and want to move to Andover

How many forms to fill in?

Normally each party will need to fill in just 1 exchange form*

Mark the form “Multiple exchange”.

Is there a limit on the number of parties
involved in a multiple exchange?

  • No

However with more people involved, a greater level of communication is required for a sucessful exchange to be achieved.

4-way exchange

Apart from the increased number of tenants involved a 4-way exchange is no more complicated than a 3-way. You still need to fill in just 1 exchange form*

*Less competent landlords may require you to fill in more than 1 form
